My Review

Groucho, Chico, and Harpo Marx help create chaotic mayhem to help two young opera singers become big stars in “A Night at the Opera.” Director Sam Wood (“Goodbye, Mr. Chips” 1939) retains tight control over this project to have a balance of wacky comedy and a romantic storyline. George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind wrote the sterling script.

The cast includes Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx, Kitty Carlisle, Allan Jones, Sig Ruman, Margaret Dumont, Walter Woolf King, and Edward Keane as the captain. The watchable “A Night at the Opera” was popular at the box office for producer Irving Thalberg and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was filmed at the iconic MGM Studios in Culver City.
