“A United Kingdom” is a romantic drama telling the story of the real-life romance between an African prince of Bechuanaland (now Botswana) and a British office clerk. David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike delivered excellent performances under the guidance of director Amma Asante (“Belle” 2013) and screenwriter Guy Hibbert.
The script was adapted from “The Colour Bar,” a 2006 novel by Susan Williams. This period piece was set in the late 1940’s through the 1950’s with outstanding production values. The supporting cast includes Jack Davenport, Jack Lowden, Terry Pheto, Vusi Kunene, Tom Felton, and Anton Lesser as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. “A United Kingdom” was in limited release in theaters for BBC Films and 20th Century Fox.
