A War (2015)

My Review

“A War” is a Danish war film telling the story of a Danish military unit fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. It centers on company commander Claus Pederson, with war scenes interspersed with time at home showing his wife and children copping without him. Once back home, he is put on trial for war crimes for the killing of eleven Afghan civilians. Director-screenwriter Tobias Lindholm did a good job in construction of this film with excellent production values and good acting and marvelous writing.

Pilou Askaek gave a fine performance in the lead role, with Tuva Novotny as his wife, Soren Malling, Dar Salim, and Charlotte Munck. “A War” (“Krigen” in Danish) is a production of AZ Celtic Films and Nordisk Film Production. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The primary language of the film is Danish, with some English and Arabic. It was filmed in Demark, Turkey, and Spain.
