Angel and the Badman (1947)

My Review

John Wayne plays a wounded gunman who collapses on a farm and is nursed back to health by a gentle Quaker woman in “Angel and the Badman.” The Duke’s character must decide between a violent past and a more peaceful future. Director-screenwriter James Edward Grant (“Circus World” 1964) put together a classic Western drama with great production values and memorable performances.

The cast includes John Wayne, Gail Russell, Harry Carey, Bruce Cabot, Irene Rich, and Paul Fix. “Angel and the Badman” was a big hit at the box office for producer John Wayne and Republic Pictures. Two remakes of the same name were release in 2009 (starring Lou Diamond Phillips, Deborah Kara Unger, Luke Perry) and in 2026 (starring Zachary Levi, Neal McDonough, Tommy Lee Jones, Meg Fraser).
