My Review

In “Another Thin Man,” Nick and Nora Charles and their infant son travel from their home in California to visit friends on Long Island, New York. While on the east coast, one of their friends is murdered and they swing into action to solve the case. Director W. S. Van Dyke keeps the usual high quality production values, sterling performances, and witty and smart scripts in this third of the “Thin Man” series. The screenplay was written by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, Anita Loos, with the story by Dashiell Hammett.

The cast includes William Powell, Myrna Loy, Virginia Grey, Otto Kruger, C. Aubrey Smith, Ruth Hussey, Nat Pendleton, Sheldon Leonard, Marjory Main, Shemp Howard, Patrick Knowles, and Skippy as Asta the Charles’ pet pooch. The watchable “Another Thin Man” was a big hit at the Depression Era box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was primarily filmed at the MGM Studios in Culver City, California, with a few cover shots in New York City, New York. “Shadow of the Thin Man” (1941) would be the next in the series.
