“Anyone But You” is a romantic comedy loosely based on William Shakespeare’s 1599 play “Much Ado About Nothing.” Director Will Gluck (“Friends With Benefits” 2011) has put together an entertaining story about a couple with an on-again/off-again relationship which is exacerbated by attempted manipulations by family and friends. Gluck co-wrote the fun-filled screenplay with Ilana Wolpert.
The stars of the show are Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell; good on-screen chemistry between them. Co-stars include Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths, Darren Brown, Bryan Barnet, Charlee Fraser, and Joe Davidson.
In Bill Shakespeare’s time, “Much Ado About Nothing,” or “Noting,” meant gossip, rumor, and overhearing, which are crucial elements in the play and in this movie. This helped to make the watchable “Anyone But You” receive some success at the box office for Columbia Pictures, Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, SK Global, Fifty-Fifty Films, Olive Bridge Entertainment, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
