Arrival (2016)

My Review

“Arrival” is a science fiction movie about twelve alien spacecraft which suddenly appear at random locations around the world. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner play a linguist and a physicist, respectively, who are asked by the American government to join the team investigating the situation.

Director Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario” 2015) put together this very cerebral scifi film which always takes the high road, never stooping to cheap depictions of aliens or the gory R-rated route. Screenwriter Eric Heisserer based the project on a 1998 short story “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang.

The cast includes Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, Tzi Ma, and Mark O’Brien. “Arrival” was a big hit at the box office for FilmNation Entertainment, Lava Bear Films, 21 Laps Entertainment, and Paramount Pictures. It was filmed in the Canadian province of Quebec.
