My Review

The leaders of Wakanda struggle to protect their kingdom from intervening world powers in the wake of their king’s death in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Director-screenwriter Ryan Coogler (“Creed” 2015) put together a fitting tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in August, 2020. Boseman was replaced as Black Panther by his character’s sister, Shari, played by Leticia Wright.

The cast includes Leticia Wright, Lupita Nyongo, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Martin Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Angela Bassett. Cameos include Michael B. Jordan, Trevor Noah, Richard Schiff, Anderson Cooper, and Chadwick Boseman in archival footage. The movie was filmed in Georgia, Massachusetts, and Puerto Rico.

The watchable “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” was a huge hit at the box office for producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and The Walt Disney Company. It was the sixth highest grossing movie of 2022 and the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was nominated for five Oscars, winning one for Best Costume Design. Non-winners include Best Supporting Actress (Bassett), Best Makeup, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Song (“Lift Me Up,” music by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Goransson, lyrics by Tems, Coogler).
