Brooklyn (2015)

My Review

“Brooklyn” is a romantic drama about a young Irish woman who emigrates to Brooklyn, New York, for better job opportunities. She soon becomes engaged to an Italian-American young man, but must return to Ireland for her sister’s funeral. She is under pressure from her friends and family trying to talk her into returning to Ireland for good. The heavy drama proceeds from there, well directed by John Crowley (“Closed Circuit” 2013) from a fantastic screenplay by Nick Hornby.

The cast includes Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, and Christian de la Cortina. “Brooklyn” was a successful sleeper hit at the box office for BBC Films, Telefilm Canada, Ingenious Media, and Lionsgate Films UK. It was filmed in Ireland, New York City, and Montreal, Canada.
