My Review

Rudolph Valentino plays a naive young law student who falls in love with a terminally ill courtesan in “Camille.” Director Ray C. Smallwood put together a top-rate production with lavish Art Deco sets as backdrop for the silent film melodrama. The screenplay (or scenario) was written by June Mathis, adapted from the 1848 French novel “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas.

Rudolph Valentino had outstanding chemistry with his female lead played by Alli Nazimova, who also produced the film. Co-stars include Arthur Hoyt, Patsy Ruth Miller, Rex Cherryman, Zeffie Tilbury, and Edward Connelly. “Camille” was popular with the Roring Twenties box office public for Nazimova Productions and Metro Pictures Corporation, a forerunner of MGM. It was filmed at the Metro Pictures lot in Hollywood, USA.
