“Captain America: Brave New World” has Anthony Mackie starring as the new Captain America, who finds himself in the middle of an international incident with the President. He must find out who is behind a diabolical plot to destroy America and the world before it’s too late. Director Julius Onah (“Luce” 2019), who also co-wrote the screenplay with five others, put together this 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is really a rehash of other plots and storylines over the years in the MCU. It must be difficult for the folks at Marvel Studios to come up with something new at this late date.
The cast does deliver good performances, including Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumby, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, Sebastian Stan, and Harrison Ford as the President of the United States. The watchable “Captain America: Brave New World” underperformed at the box office much to the disappointment of producer Kevin Feige and the gang at Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. The lack of popularity of the film with the public is not doubt due to the absence of fan-favorite Chris Evans as Captain America in particular and the drought of new ideas plaguing Marvel Studios in general.
