My Review

Disagreement among the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe about government oversight of their organization is the subject of “Captain America: Civil War.” The top-rate screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely has them splintered into two factions: The limited government group led by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and the big government crowd led by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) Expert direction by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” 2014) kept the multitude of actors moving in an orderly fashion.

Co-stars include Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Elizabeth Olson as Scarlet, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Paul Bettany as Vision, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, William Hurt as the Secretary of State, Hope Davis as Stark’s mother, Alfre Woodward as Mrs. Dillard, and Stan Lee in a cameo as a FedEx deliveryman.

“Captain America: Civil War” was the highest grossing film of 2016 for producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in Atlanta, Berlin, and Puerto Rico. The 147 minute motion picture is a sequel to the first two “Captain Americas” of 2011 and 2014, and is the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
