Captain Marvel (2019)

My Review

Brie Larson appears on the scene as a new superhero called “Captain Marvel.” The story tells how Carol Danvers obtained superhuman powers after an “accident” and became Captain Marvel. Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck get the usual Marvel Studios thumbs up for the good job they do with action figures. The screenplay was penned by Boden, Fleck, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

The cast includes Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Annette Bening as the Supreme Intelligence, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Lee Pace as Ronan, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Clark Gregg as Phil. Also appearing in cameos are Stan Lee, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Don Cheadle.

“Captain Marvel” was the fifth highest grossing film of 2019 for producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. This was the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, filmed in Southern California and Louisiana. The sequel will be “The Marvels” (2023).
