Child’s Play (2019)

My Review

“Child’s Play” tells the story of a disgruntled employee at a manufacturing company who sabotogues an AI doll named Buddi, who goes wild after customers buy the product, and changes his own name to Chucky. The drama and violence proceeds from there. Director Lars Klevberg and writer Tyler Burton Smith have updated director-writer Don Mancini’s original “Chucky” series with these horror and gory features which appeal to the lowest common denominator in the general population. The film contains cheap production values and a terrible script.

The cast includes Aubrey Plaza as a widow who buys her son a Buddi doll, Gabriel Bateman as her son, Brian Tyree Henry as the police detective, Tim Matheson as the factory owner, and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. “Child’s Play” was a modest hit at the box office for Orion Pictures, KatzSmith Productions, Bron Creative, and United Artists Releasing. It was filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
