My Review

“Christmas in Connecticut” is a Holiday screwball comedy about a food critic whose recipes and homemaking tips are popular around the country. Her articles about her fictitious husband and baby living on an imaginary farm are especially well-liked. The truth is in danger of being revealed when a returning war hero wants to visit the family at Christmas time. The mayhem proceeds from there, well directed by Peter Godfrey (“That Hagen Girl” 1947) from an acceptable script written by Lionel Houser and Adele Comandini.

The cast includes Barbara Stanwyck as the columnist, Dennis Morgan as the war hero, Sydney Greenstreet as her publisher, Reginald Gardner as the owner of a farm, S. Z. Sakall as Uncle Felix, Robert Shayne as her editor, Una O’Connor as the housekeeper, Frank Jenks as a sailor, Joyce Compton as a nurse, and Dick Elliot as Judge Crothers. “Christmas in Connecticut” was popular in theatrical release for Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed at the Warner Bros. sound stages in Burbank.
