“Christmas in July” is a screwball comedy about an office worker who thinks he won $25,000 a national contest due to a fake telegram placed on his desk by co-workers. The zany comedy proceeds from there well directed and written by Preston Sturges, the all-time expert in putting together screwball comedies. He won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “The Great McGinty” from MGM, also released in 1940.

The cast includes Dick Powell, Ellen Drew, William Demarest, Raymond Walburn, Ernest Truex, and Rod Cameron. “Christmas in July” performed well at the box office for Paramount Pictures. It was filmed at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
