My Review

“Collateral” is an action film where a Los Angeles cab driver who, for a large fee, agrees to drive a hitman to five locations in one night. He soon discovers they are assassinations, with the heavy drama proceeding from there. Director Michael Mann (“The Last of the Mohicans” 1992) did a good job of creating a believable nonstop thriller reminiscent of an old-fashioned film noir. Stuart Beattie penned the excellent screenplay.

Tom Cruise as Vincent the hitman and Jamie Foxx as the cabbie were both at the top of their game. (Foxx was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.) Co-stars include Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo, Bruce McGill, Peter Berg, Javier Bardem, and Jason Statham. The watchable “Collateral” was a big hit at the box office for producer Michael Mann, DreamWorks Pictures, Parkes/MacDonald Productions, and Paramount Pictures. A second Academy Award nod for the film was for Film Editing. It was filmed in Los Angeles.
