Come Back, Little Sheba (1952)

My Review

“Come Back, Little Sheba” is a story of a middle-aged couple dealing with his alcoholism and her regrets about their marriage and life together. Tight direction by Daniel Mann in his big screen debut made this a engrossing film with a fast moving 99 minute running time. The excellent screenplay by Ketti Frings was adapted from William Inge’s 1950 stage play.

The cast is headed by Burt Lancaster and Shirley Booth as the lead couple, Terry Moore as their boarder, Richard Jaeckel, Philip Ober, Lisa Golm, Edwin Max, and Walter Kelley. The very watchable “Come Back, Little Sheba” was a big hit at the box office for producer Hal B. Wallis and Paramount Pictures. It was the thirteenth highest grossing film of 1953, being released in December, 1952.

It was nominated for three Academy Awards, winning one for Best Actress (Booth). The non-winners were Best Supporting Actress (Moore) and Best Film Editing. It was primarily filmed at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
