My Review

“Double Indemnity” is a film noir drama about a woman and her insurance salesman who plot to kill her husband for the insurance money. Things seem to go well until a suspicious claims manager begins to look into the situation. Director Billy Wilder (“The Lost Weekend” 1945) co-wrote the excellent screenplay with Raymond Chandler, adapted from the 1943 novel of the same name by James M. Cain.

The cast includes Fred MacMurray as salesman Walter, Barbara Stanwyck as the naughty wife, Edward G. Robinson as the claims manager, Porter Hall, Jean Heather, Tom Powers, Barbara Barr, Richard Gaines, Fortunio Bonanova, and John Philliber as the elevator operator. “Double Indemnity” was a big hit in theatrical release for Paramount Pictures. It received seven Academy Award nominations with no wins.
