Dumb Money (2023)

My Review

“Dumb Money” is a financial comedy-drama film about the true story of everyday investors outsmarting Wall Street by driving up the stock price of the retailer GameShop in January, 2021, providing enormous profit to shareholders. Sloppy directing by Craig Gillespie (“Cruella” 2021) and terrible writing by authors of the screenplay Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo lead to an unorganized and chaotic feel to the movie.

The cast pitched in by delivering shallow and obnoxious performances, including Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shallene Woodley, Seth Rogan, Dana DeHaan, and Kate Burton, daughter of the legendary Richard Burton.

The hard to watch “Dumb Money” was a flop at the box office for Ryder Picture Company, Black Bear Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed in New Jersey.
