My Review

“Ford v Ferrari” follows an auto designer and a driver as they build a new kind of race car for the Ford Motor Company in an effort to defeat the dominating Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of LeMans race in 1966. Director James Mangold (“Walk the Line” 2005) put together an interesting story with marvelous production values and a good screenplay by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Jason Keller. They struck a perfect balance between car action sequences and character development.

The cast includes Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby (auto designer & engineer), Christian Bale as Ken Miles (English auto racer), Tracy Letts as Henry Ford II, Jon Bernthal as Lee Iacocca, Remo Girone as Enzo Ferrari, Caitriona Balfe as Miles’ wife, Noah Jupe as Miles’ son, Marisa Petroro as Cristina Ford, and Giovanni Cirfiera as Gianni Agnelli, owner of Fiat.

“Ford v Ferrari” was a box office hit for producer Peter Chernin, Turnpike Films, 20th Century Fox, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in Southern California and Georgia. The movie was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning two – Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. The two non-winners were Best Picture and Best Sound Mixing.
