My Review

“French Exit” is a dark comedy about a nearly penniless Manhattan socialite who moves to Paris with her aimless son to live out her final days after her late husband’s inheritance runs out. She lives in her sister’s apartment. Director Azazel Jacobs and screenwriter Patrick deWitt put together an excellent vehicle for Michelle Pfeiffer to demonstrate her wide acting range in this quirky role. The film was adapted from the 2018 novel by deWitt.

The supporting cast behind Michelle Pfeiffer includes Lucas Hedges as her son, Tracy Letts as the voice of Frank, Valerie Mahaffey as the neighbor, Susan Coyne as her sister, Imogene Poots as the son’s girl friend, Danielle Macdonald as Madeleine, and Isaach de Bankole and Daniel Di Tomasso as friends. The watchable art house cinema classic “French Exit” had limited theatrical release from Evolution Entertainment, Elevation Pictures, Telefilm Canada, and Sony Pictures Classics. It was filmed in Paris and Quebec.
