My Review

“Garden State” is a drama-comedy film directed, written, and starring Zach Braff. The star of television’s “Scrubs” (2001-2010) incorporated his own life experiences into this entertaining story of a guy returning to his hometown in New Jersey for his mother’s funeral.

Braff’s first attempt at filmmaking was a success with critics and with the movie-going public alike. The soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Braff, who personally selected the songs. The supporting cast delivered good performances, which includes Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm, Jean Smart, Armando Riesco, Jackie Hoffman, Method Man, Jim Parsons, Michael Weston, Ann Dowd, and Ron Liebman. “Garden State” was successful at the box office for Fox Searchlight Pictures.
