“Go West” is a Western comedy film featuring the Marx Brothers headed to California during the Gold Rush to make their fortune panning for gold. Director Edward Buzzell (“Honolulu” 1939) and screenwriter Irving Brecher did a good job providing a comedic vehicle for the Marx Brothers’ twelfth of fifteen films they made together.
The cast includes Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Chico Marx, John Carroll, Diana Lewis, Walter Woolf King, Robert Barrat, June MacCloy, and George Lessey as the railroad president. “Go West” was a modest success at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was partially filmed on location in California and Arizona and on the MGM Studio soundstages in Culver City.
