Good Fortune (2025)

My Review

“Good Fortune” is a comedy film about a low-level angel named Gabriel whose main job is to keep people from texting while driving. Hoping to move up the ranks in Heaven, he gets into trouble when he starts meddling further in people’s business and causes their lives to unravel. The drama and comedy proceed from there when he loses his angelic status and becomes a mere mortal. Director-screenwriter Aziz Ansari put together a quality though somewhat formulaic movie with some good life-lessons. This is Ansari’s first time in the director’s chair, with entertaining results.

The cast includes Keanu Reeves as Gabriel, Aziz Ansari as a struggling blue collar worker, Seth Rogan as a wealthy businessman, Sandra Oh as Gabriel’s boss, Penny Johnson Jerald as Aziz’s friend’s mom, Stephen McKinley Henderson as another angel, and Keke Palmer, Matt Rogers, Sherry Cola, and Felipe Garcia Martinez as Aziz’s friends and co-workers. The watchable “Good Fortune” did not have good fortune at the box office for producer Aziz Ansari, Oh Brudder Productions, Garam Films, Keep Your Head Productions, Yang Pictures, and Lionsgate Films. It was filmed in Los Angeles, California.
