My Review

“Gotti” is a biographical crime drama telling the true story of New York City Mafia boss John Gotti (1940-2002). Director Kevin Connolly (“Gardener of Eden” 2007) and screenwriters Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi filled the movie with much of the facts and figures of Gotti’s life, but unfortunately it also contains low quality production values, terrible performances, uneven plot lines, and atrociously written dialogue.

John Travolta is the star of the show and delivers a dreadful performance in bad makeup. And Gotti is depicted as a friendly family man instead of the murderous thug he was. Kelly Preston, who was married to Travolta in real life, appears here as Mrs. John Gotti. This is her penultimate film; she passed in 2020. Co-stars include Stacy Keach, Spencer Lofranco, Pruitt Taylor Vince, William DeMeo, and Leo Rossi. “Gotti” was a box office bomb for Emmet Furla Oasis Films, Fiore Films, Ingenious Media, and Vertical Entertainment.

It was filmed in Cincinnati, Ohio, and received six nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards – Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actor (Travolta), Worst Supporting Actress (Preston), Worst Screenplay, and Worst Screen Combo (Kelly Preston and John Travolta).
