Hidalgo (2004)

My Review

Viggo Mortensen plays a cowboy who enters his horse “Hidalgo” into a three thousand miles survival race across the Sahara Desert. The action gets hot and heavy thanks to capable direction by Joe Johnston (“Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” 1989) and a passable screenplay by John Fusco.

The supporting cast includes Omar Shariff, C. Thomas Howell, Malcolm McDowell, Louis Lombard, Said Taghmaoui, Peter Mensah, J. K. Simmons as Buffalo Bill Cody, and Elizabeth Berridge as Annie Oakley. The passable “Hidalgo” made a small profit at the box office for Touchstone Pictures, Casey Silver Productions, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company. It was filmed in California and Morocco.
