Hillsong: Let Hope Arise (2016)

My Review

“Hillsong: Let Hope Arise” is a documentary on Hillsong United, a contemporary Christian music worship band from Australia. Director Michael John Warren (“Shrek the Musical” 2013)did a good job of balancing live concert footage at the Los Angeles Forum, behind the scenes interviews, and visits to band members’ homes. On any Sunday, it it estimated that more than fifty million people are singing their songs in churches around the world.

Band leader Joel Houston tells the amazing story of how Hillsong United was formed from the youth group in his father’s congregation, Hillsong Chruch of Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne, Australia. Pastor Brian Houston and wife Bobbie Houston are featured in interviews, as are eight band members. Songs include “Mighty to Save,” This I Believe,” “Forever Reign,” and more. “Hillsong: Let Hope Arise” was a modest success at the box office for Grace Hill Media, Media Weaver Entertainment, and Pure Flix Entertainment.
