Hotel Rwanda (2004)

My Review

“Hotel Rwanda” is an historical drama film set in the Rwandan civil war of 1994 between the Hutu and Tutsi ethic groups. This film tells the story of a hotel manager in the capital city who shelters over 1,200 refugees from both groups. Director Terry George created quite an engrossing drama from the excellent screenplay he wrote with Keir Pearson.

The cast includes Don Cheadle, Sophie Okonedo, Nike Nolte, Joaquin Phoenix, Jean Reno, Cara Seymour, Desmond Dube, David O’Hara, and Fana Mokoena as the General. The watchable “Hotel Rwanda” made money in theatrical release for United Artists, Lionsgate Films, Endgame Entertainment, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

It was filmed in Kigali, Rwanda, and Johannesburg, South Africa. “Hotel Rwanda” received three Oscar nods for Best Actor (Cheadle), Best Supporting Actress (Okonedo), and Best Original Screenplay.
