My Review

“I See a Dark Stranger” is a comedic spy thriller about an Irish woman who seeks to join the IRA to defend Ireland against England, but soon gets involved in espionage with a Nazi German spy seeking to undermine the United Kingdom. Director Frank Launder (“The Blue Lagoon” 1949) ran a tight ship in this movie which was a very fast two hour running time. He co-wrote the script with Sidney Gilliat.

The cast includes Deborah Kerr as the Irish woman, Trevor Howard as the British Naval office, Raymond Huntley as the German spy, Brenda Bruce, Torin Thatcher, and David Tomlinson. “I See a Dark Stranger” was a flop at the box office for Individual Pictures of the UK and General Film Distributors (UK).
