Joyful Noise (2012)

My Review

“Joyful Noise” is a musical comedy-drama about two women entangled in a feud over the leadership of a church choir after the passing of the choir leader. The two have different visions over what direction and type of music the choir should adopt. Director-screenwriter Todd Graff put together an entertaining yet predictable storyline which is held together by the considerable charisma of the two stars of the show.

They are Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, both doing a great job of projecting their personalities in the film. They are in roles which perfectly fit their limited acting ranges. (This would be Parton’s final film appearance.) Co-stars include Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan, Courtney B. Vance, Dexter Darden, Kris Kristofferson, Jesse L. Martin, and Kirk Franklin. “Joyful Noise” was a box office dud for Alcon Entertainment, Farrell Paura Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
