Killing Season (2013)

My Review

“Killing Season” is an action thriller film about two veterans of the Bosnian War (1992-1995), an American who was part of the NATO team and a Serbian commando, who clash in the remote Appalachian wilderness. What begins as a friendship during a hunting trip soon devolves into a deadly cat-and-mouse game driven by vengeance and hidden grudges. Director Mark Steven Johnson (“When in Rome” 2010) put together a dramatic thriller with unexpected twists and turns. The action is very intense and mercifully short with only a 91 minute running time. The tight screenplay was written by Evan Daugherty.

The stars of the show are Robert De Niro as the American and John Travolta as the Serbian soldier. Both delivered effective performances, with Travolta sporting a seemingly authentic Serbian accent. Co-stars are Milo Ventimiglia and Elizabeth Olin. The watchable “Killing Season” had only limited release in theaters and Video on Demand from Nu Image, Millennium Films, Corsan Pictures, and FilmEngine. It was filmed in the Appalachian Mountain region of Georgia, with some scenes shot in Bulgaria.
