Kindergarten Cop (1990)

My Review

“Kindergarten Cop” is a comedy-action film about an LAPD detective going undercover as a kindergarten teacher in a small Oregon town to try and locate the ex-wife and son of a dangerous drug dealer. The laughs proceed from there, fairly well managed by director Ivan Reitman (“Twins” 1988) and screenwriters Murray Salem, Hershel Weingrad, and Timothy Harris. The movie is entertaining but not a top-tier comedy due to mediocre material and a weak performance by star Arnold Schwarzeneggar.

The cast with Arnold includes Penelope Ann Miller, Pamela Reed, Linda Hunt, Carroll Baker, Angela Bassett, and Heidi Swedberg, who became famous as George’s fiancee Susan on “Seinfeld” (1992-1997). “Kindergarten Cop” was the tenth highest grossing film of 1990 for Imagine Entertainment and Universal Pictures. It was filmed in Astoria, Oregon, and Los Angeles and Orange Counties in California.
