My Review

“Last Flag Flying” is a war drama about three Vietnam veterans who reunite after one of their sons is killed in the Iraq War. They embark on a road trip to transport the casket home. Director Richard Linklater (“Me and Orson Welles” 2008), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Darryl Ponicsan, assembled this poignant film looking at the effects of war from several points of view.

Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne deliver grand performances and have great chemistry in this picture. Co-stars include Cicely Tyson, Yul Vasquez, J. Quinton Johnson, and Deanna Reed-Foster. “Last Flag Flying” was adapted from Ponican’s 2005 novel of the same name. His true story is told in this watchable film from Cinetic Media, Detour Filmproduction, Amazon Studios, and Lionsgate Films. It was filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
