“Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” has Reese Witherspoon back in her role as Elle Woods, recently graduated from Harvard and moving to Washington, D. C., to campaign for animal rights. She has a tough go, but is helped out by a Congresswoman played by Sally Field. Director Charles Herman-Wurmfeld (“Kissing Jessica Stein” 2001) put together a respectable sequel to 2001’s “Legally Blonde,” from a screenplay by Kate Kondell.
Reese Witherspoon heads the cast, doing her usual great job with outstanding charisma and sex appeal, and is helped out by veterans Sally Field and Bob Newhart. They are always a welcome presence on the big or small screen. Co-stars include Bruce McGill, Regina King, Dana Ivey, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Octavia Spencer, and Masi Oka. Returnees from the original picture are Luke Wilson, Jennifer Coolidge, Bruce Thomas, and Moonie the dog as Bruiser, Elle’s pet.
The watchable “Legally Blonde: Red, White, and Blonde” was popular at the box office for Type A Films, Marc Platt Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and 20th Century Fox. A spinoff called “Legally Blondes” was released in 2009, with Witherspoon as the producer.
