Little Italy (2018)

My Review

“Little Italy” is a romantic comedy about two childhood friends turned star-crossed lovers whose feuding families run competing neighborhood pizzerias. Director Donald Petrie (“Mystic Pizza” 1988) put together a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy loosely based on Bill Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” The acceptable screenplay by Steve Galluccio and Vinny Vermani does not get into heavy character development, but does rely on stereotypical characters.

The heads of the cast are Emma Roberts (daughter of Eric Roberts) and Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in another life). This film shows them in a different light. The supporting cast behind this stellar pair include Alyssa Milano, Danny Aiello, Jane Seymour, Adam Ferrara, Gary Basaraba, and Martin Roach as Officer Hardaz. “Little Italy” was a flop at the box office for Telefilm Canada, Voltage Pictures, Entertainment One, and Lionsgate Films. It was filmed in Ontario, Canada.
