My Review
“Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House” is an historic drama about the Deputy Director of the FBI who become the secret informant feeding information to reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein about the Watergate scandal, which eventually resulted in the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Director-screenwriter Peter Landesman (“Parkland” 2013) put together a mediocre drama which has poor writing as well as surprisingly lackluster performances. It was adapted from the 2006 autobiography of the same name by Mark Felt. Given the dramatic real-life events, one would think that the film would be more of a thriller than the yawner it turned out to be.
The cast includes Liam Neeson in the title role, Michael C. Hall as John Dean, Julian Morris as Bob Woodward, Marton Csokas as Pat Gray, Diane Lane, Tony Goldwyn, Maika Monroe, Kate Walsh, Josh Lucas, Tom Sizemore, Noah Wylie, and Eddie Marsan. The dull-as-dishwater “Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House” was a flop at the box office for producer Ridley Scott, Mandalay Pictures, Scott Free Productions, and Sony Pictures Classics.
