Master Gardener (2022)

My Review

“Master Gardener” is a drama film about a talented horticulturist who enjoys his work at a huge estate owned by a wealthy widow. When he is asked to take on her troubled great-niece as an apprentice, his life is thrown into chaos and troubling secrets from his past emerge. Director-screenwriter Paul Schrader (“Patty Hearst” 1988) orchestrated an engrossing drama with excellent character development and outstanding production values.

Exceptional performances were turned in by the three lead actors: Joel Edgerton as the gardener, Sigourney Weaver as the home owner, and Quintessa Swindell as the niece. The supporting cast includes Esai Morales, Victoria Hill, and Rick Cosnett. The watchable “Master Gardener” performed poorly in theatrical release for HanWay Films, Flickstar, Ottocento Films, Northern Lights, KOJO Studios, and Magnolia Pictures.
