My Review

“Michael” is a biopic film about the life and career of music superstar Michael Jackson (1958-2009). Director Antoine Fuqua (“Olympus Has Fallen” 2013) put together a comprehensive look at Jackson’s life from the early years of the Jackson family in Gary, Indiana, their rise to stardom as the Jackson Five, father Joseph’s abusive streak, Michael’s breakout in a solo career which brought him to superstardom in the 1980’s, to the final Jacksons Tour in 1984. The excellent screenplay was written by John Logan.

Jafaar Jackson headed the cast as Michael Jackson, personifying the King of Pop, helped out by the fact that he is Michael’s nephew and the son of Jermaine Jackson. There definitely is a family resemblance, and he did perform MJ’s hit songs. Co-stars include Colman Domingo and Nia Long as his parents, Miles Teller as the Jackson family attorney, Jessica Sula as LaToya, Mike Meyers as the head of CBS Records, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, Larenz Tate as Barry Gorty, Deon Cole as Don King, Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Jamal Henderson as Jermaine Jackson, Tre Horton as Marlon Jackson, Rhyan Hill as Tito Jackson, Joseph David-Jones as Jackie Jackson, and Jono Petrie as John Landis.

The watchable “Michael” opened at number one at the box office for the weekend of May 24, 2026, for Lionsgate Films, GK Films, Optimum Productions, and Universal Studios. Principal photography took place in Santa Barbara, California. Anyone who enjoys Michael Jackson’s music will appreciate viewing this movie.
