“Money Monster” is a crime drama film about a flamboyant financial television host who is taken hostage on a live broadcast by a young man who lost his $60,000 inheritance on a bad stock tip from him. Director Jody Foster (“The Beaver” 2011) kept the riveting melodrama on an even keel for the movie’s entire 99 minute running time.
The cast includes George Clooney as the tv host, Julia Roberts is the director, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe, Giancarlo Esposito, and Condola Rashad (daughter of Phylicia Rashad and Ahmad Rashad). “Money Monster” was a modest success in theatrical release for producer George Clooney, TriStar Pictures, Smokehouse Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing. As expected, the film was shot in New York City.
