My Review

Charlton Heston directs and stars in “Mother Lode,” the story of two “city slickers” who fly into the wilderness of British Columbia to search for a missing colleague. Their plane crashes and they find themselves at the mercy of a crazed old Scottish miner, with the drama proceeding from there. Director Heston does an excellent job of putting together this suspense-filled potboiler from a screenplay written by Fraser Clarke Heston (Chuck’s son).

The cast includes Chuck Heston as the Scottish miner, Kim Basinger and Nick Mancuso as the two visitors, and John Marley as Elijah. The watchable “Mother Lode” had a very small release in theaters, and as a result, very little box office income for producer Fraser Clarke Heston and Agamemnon Films. It was filmed on location in the beautiful scenery of British Columbia, with outstanding cinematography by Richard Leiterman.
