Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

My Review

Robin Williams gave the best performance of his career as “Mrs. Doubtfire.” He plays a divorced man who disguises himself as a female housekeeper, hired by his ex-wife, with the purpose of staying close to his children. He breathes life into this character from an excellent laugh-filled screenplay by Leslie Dixon and Randi Mayem Singer. The film’s one Oscar win was for Best Makeup.

Director Chris Columbus (“Home Alone” 1990) did an outstanding job of keeping this two-hour comedy on track with good pacing and outstanding production values. He had wonderful performers to work with, including Williams, Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Lisa Jakub, Polly Holliday, Martin Mull, Scott Capuro, Matthew Lawrence, Robert Prosky, William Newman, Harvey Fierstein, Mara Wilson, and Anne Haney.

The watchable “Mrs. Doubtfire” was the second highest grossing film of 1993 for producer Robin Williams, Blue Wolf Production, and 20th Century Fox. It was filmed in San Francisco, California.
