My Review

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” is an entirely predictable sequel to the 2002 movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” The only thing slimmed down is the star, Nia Vardalos, who not only wrote the screenplay but also managed to reunite the entire cast from the original. Her friends Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (a fellow Greek-American) were the producers.

The new kid on the block is Elena Kampouris, who plays Vardalos and John Corbett’s daughter. She seems to spend most of her screen time wincing and frowning at her Greek relatives’ eccentric behavior. That, accompanied by the mediocre dialogue, begins to get on viewer’s nerves long before the halfway point of the film. Pass the baklava!

The cast includes Michael Constantine (a long way from the 1970’s sitcom “Room 222”), Lainie Kazan, Andrea Martin, Louis Mandylor, Bess Meisler, Joey Fatone, Gerry Mendicino, Ian Gomez, Rob Riggle, John Stamos, and Rita Wilson. Director Kirk Jones (“Nanny McPhee” 2005) performed the obligatory duties for producers Vardalos and the Hanks, helping the sluggish “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” to make a profit at the box office for them, Home Box Office, and Universal Pictures.
