My Review

“Neptune’s Daughter” is a musical comedy about an aquatics star and swimsuit designer who get caught up in a web of mistaken identity. Director Edward Buzzell (“Song of the Thin Man” 1947) put together this entertaining Esther Williams vehicle with great production values, good performances, and top-notch writing in a screenplay by Dorothy Kingsley.

The stars are Esther Williams, Red Skelton, Ricardo Montalban, Betty Garrett, Keenan Wynn, Mel Blanc, Ted de Corsia, Mike Mazurki, and Xavier Cugat and His Orchesta. “Neptune’s Daughter” was the ninth highest grossing film of 1949 for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, filmed in Technicolor.
