Off the Rails (2021)

My Review

“Off the Rails” is a British comedy-drama film about three life-long friends in their 50’s embarking on holiday to relive a trip taken many years earlier to France, Italy, and Spain with their now deceased friend, who left them the train tickets on the condition they take her teenage daughter with them. Director Jules Williamson put together a pleasant enough film which does have a very predictable storyline and plot from the screenplay by Jordan Waller.

The cast includes Kelly Preston, Jenny Seagrove, and Sally Phillips as the three friends, Elizabeth Dormer-Phillips as the daughter of the deceased, Judi Dench as the mother of the deceased, Franco Nero as the mayor of an Italian town, and Peter Bowles as the Vicar. “Off the Rails” is watchable escapist programming from Bill Kenwright Films, Black Camel Pictures, and Screen Media Films. It was filmed in Mallorca, Spain, and London, UK.

This was Kelly Preston’s final movie appearance, as she passed away in July, 2020, one year before the film’s release in July, 2021. “Off the Rails” is dedicated to her memory in the credits. Her first motion picture was “10 to Midnight” (1983) starring Charles Bronson.
