On the Rocks (2020)

My Review

“On the Rocks” is a comedy film about a woman who suspects her husband may be having an affair, fueled by the constant speculation of her skeptical and suspicious father, who is visiting from out of town. The humor and drama proceeds from there, well organized by focused director-screenwriter Sofia Coppola. She is truly a chip off the old block – Francis Ford Coppola.

The cast turn out excellent performances with good chemistry – Bill Murray as the father, Rashida Jones as his daughter, Marlon Wayans as her hubby, Barbara Bain as her grandmother, Julianna Canfield as her sister, and Jessica Henwick, Jenny Slate, and Alva Chin in supporting roles. (So far, this is Bain’s final motion picture role.) “On the Rocks” had a limited theatrical run before being release on digital streaming from American Zoetrope, A24, and Apple TV+. It was filmed in New York, New York, the town so nice they named it twice.
