My Review

“Operation Petticoat” is a comedy motion picture about the misadventures of a fictional U. S. Navy submarine in World War II called the USS Sea Tiger. The story is a bit convoluted and hard-to-follow in parts, due to uneven direction by Blake Edwards (“10” 1979) and a poorly written screenplay penned by Stanley Shapiro and Maurice Richlin. However, there are numerous laughs in the film and professional deliveries by the lead actors.

The cast includes Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Dina Merrill, Arthur O’Connell, Dick Sergeant, Gene Evans, Joan O’Brien, Marion Ross, Madelyn Rhue, and Gavin MacLeod. “Operation Petticoat” was the third highest grossing film of 1959 for the Granart Company and Universal International Pictures. It was filmed in Key West, Florida, San Diego, Long Beach, and Universal Studios in Hollywood.
