Out of Time (2003)

My Review

“Out of Time” is a riveting crime drama about a respected police chief in a Florida Keys town who is implicated in the murder of a married couple when it is revealed he was having an affair with the wife. Further complications arise when his estranged spouse, a police investigator, is assigned to the case. Director Carl Franklin (“Devil in a Blue Dress” 1995) and screenwriter David Collard put together quite a humdinger of a mystery thriller which keeps the audience mesmerized for the entire 105 minute running time.

The cast do deliver in the performance department including Denzel Washington as the police chief, Eva Mendes as his wife, Dean Cain and Sanaa Lathan as the Harrisons, Nora Dunn as Dr. Donovan, O. L. Duke as Detective Bronze, John Billingsley as Chae, Robert Baker as Tony, Alex Carter as the imposter doctor, and Antoni Corone as Officer Baste. The very watchable “Out of Time” barely broke even at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Original Film, and Monarch Pictures. It was filmed in the Keys and South Florida with excellent cinematography by Theo van de Sande.
