My Review

Sean Connery plays a marshal battling drug dealers on Jupiter’s moon Io, while receiving very little support from the authorities or the mining community in “Outland.” This exciting and well-paced science fiction version of “High Noon” was finely crafted by director-screenwriter Peter Hyams (“Capricorn One” 1978).

The supporting cast includes Peter Boyle, Frances Sternhagen, James B. Sikking, Steven Berkoff, John Ratzenberger, Bill Bailey, and Kika Markham. The watchable “Outland” was a flop at the box office for The Ladd Company and Warner Bros. Pictures. It contains very good special effects and cinematography (Stephen Goldblatt) and an excellent soundtrack (Jerry Goldsmith), and was nominated for one Academy Award for Best Sound. It was filmed in Pinewood Studios near London, UK.
