Overcomer (2019)

My Review

“Overcomer” is the story of a small-town high school basketball coach who loses most of his students due to a factory closure, with most of them moving to another city. He is left with one student, a cross-country runner with asthma named Hannah. They work things through together and find unexpected victories. Director Alex Kendrick (“War Room” 2015) did an excellent job at the helm of the movie instilling good production values, quality performances, and an excellent screenplay he co-wrote with Stephen Kendrick.

Alex Kendrick was also at the head of the cast playing the coach who was left with one student, portrayed by Aryn Wright-Thompson. Co-stars include Shari Rigby, Priscilla Shirer, Cameron Arnett, Jack Sterner, Ben Davies, and Denise Armstrong as Hannah’s grandmother. The faith-based movie “Overcomer” was an unexpected big hit at the box office for producer Stephen Kendrick, Affirm Films, Provident Films, Kendrick Brothers, and Sony Pictures Releasing. It was filmed in Georgia and Tennessee.
